Ottawa area filmmakers Robert and Sharon Newton announce the upcoming release of their feature-length documentary film entitled “Memories of the Ex: 122 Years at Lansdowne”.

The film tells the story of the Central Canada Exhibition from its inception in 1888 until the gates closed for the final time on SuperEX at Lansdowne Park at 10:00 PM August 29, 2010. Run time is approximately 100 minutes.

The project was conceived, produced and completely self-financed by the filmmakers themselves. Work began in August of 2010.

The film features high definition footage from the final edition of SuperEX plus over two hundred historical photographs, and over seventy interviews. The story is told through a combination of narration covering the early period, plus first hand accounts, some going back as far as the mid 1930s, by people who loved and lived the “Ex.”

Interviewees include dozens of fair goers, numerous members past and present of the CCEA executive, Mayor Watson, three former mayors, a number of TV and radio personalities who had involvement with the Exhibition, and several other well known Ottawa personalities.

The film will be premiered in the historic Coliseum at Lansdowne Park at 8:00 PM on August 18, 2011, which is the day that SuperEx would have opened were it to have been held this year.
