The RONA Pure Country Pavilion 2010
 
The heart, soul and roots of SuperEX is the RONA PURE COUNTRY PAVILION. 
 
Located in the historical Aberdeen Pavilion, the daily agricultural demonstrations and exhibits will enlighten, educate, entertain and give fair-goers a look at what agriculture is really like.
 
Daily features include:
● The Birds of Prey show
● A five day 4-H Show August 20-24
● Monalea Petting Zoo everyday
● Nightly live country entertainment at 9
● Sheep shearing demonstrations three times daily
● Miniature horse drawn wagon rides daily at noon
● Maple the Cow features interactive cow milking

OTTAWA VALLEY APPLE PIE BAKING CONTEST
MRC Pontiac Day, Thursday August 26th

Rules:
Must be an apple pie
Made with local apples (Ontario or Quebec)
Pies must be made from scratch
Must be double crusted
*Must be submitted on a disposable pie plate
*All entries become property of the CCEA

Prizes:
1st Place- $500
2nd Place- $200
3rd, 4th, 5th Place- $100 each

Don’t Be Shy, Bake A Pie!
*Preliminary judging to be done Thursday August 27th between 5:00 and 6:00pm in the RONA Pure Country Pavilion by celebrity judges.  These judges include:
Patrick Meagher, Editor of Farmers Forum;
Tom Van Dusen, GM of Ottawa Valley Farm Show;
Meredith Brophy, President of the OAAS;
Jesse Groniger, Ottawa Carleton Queen of the Furrows; and
Wilbur Mclain, Editor of the Shawville Equity.

*Final judging to be done by CTV’s Max Keeping at 7:00 pm in the RONA Pure Country Pavilion Thursday August 27th.
 
Drop off your pies Wednesday August 26th between Noon and 7:00 pm or on Thursday August 27th between 12:00 and 4:00 pm. Contact Judy at 613-237-7222 for full drop off details.

Canadian Raptor ConservancyThe Canadian Raptor Conservancy performs live, free-flight demonstrations including birds trained for free flight.
 
The handler/interpreter gives an educational commentary about each species in this unique encounter with nature’s flying hunters. Each demo showcases at least five species and three free flying birds.

The birds are on display all day.

EMU AND YOU
EMU Products from Triple A Farm

Emu and You is the brand of products offered by Triple A Farm.  William and Heather Griffith have owned and operated their 600 acre beef farm since 1985.  They enjoy a niche market that allows them to develop their business from breeding to products. They started with two breeding pairs of emus, an incubator, and lots of energy.
 
 
Fourteen years later they have a flock of 75 emus, and have developed their own brand of products named, Emu and You. Emu and You skin care products include, Emu Oil, and Emu Oil enriched; hand and body lotions, bath soap, day and night facial moisturizers.
 
Emu meat is a delicious red meat that is low in fat, low in calories and high in iron.  Triple A Farm emu meat is prepared in steaks, burgers, sausage and pepperettes type meat product.
 
Currently their products are sold from the Triple A Farm gate store and at Perth and Carp Farmer’s Markets on Saturday mornings. We are proud to have them in the RONA Pure Country Pavilion this year with a vendor booth and a live emu exhibit including demonstrations in the show ring.

 
 
 
4-H COMPETITION

The 4-H Program entails opportunities, personal development, making friends, and having fun, helping young people (10-21 years of age) learn self-confidence and new skills.

August 20-24 local 4H Club youth showcase different animals in the Show Ring under the scrutinizing eyes of a judge.
 
 
Cash prizes are awarded to the youth placing high in the daily competitions.

Presented by the Ottawa-Carleton Federation of Agriculture, the Ottawa Valley Seed Growers Association, Worlds Finest Shows, and Emerald Links Golf and Country Club.

Founded in 2003 in the historic village of Bristol, Quebec, Coronation Hall Cider Mills celebrated its grand opening on October 11, 2008.
 
Throughout the year, the Graham family offers family events, courses, tastings, and archaeological and heritage tours of the area, all based from the 1936 Coronation Dance Hall. Among their products are cider, pies, cookies, and other apple-related treats.
 
 
 
Taste some of the freshest juice available, pressed from apples from the Graham’s own Third Line Orchards.
 
Coronation Hall Cider Mills will have FREE apple cider samples available daily as well as 2L bottles for purchase at their display booth in the RONA Pure Country Pavilion.

Certainly no stranger to the stage and crowds, Brett is back on the road with an excitingly full sounding one-man show entitled “Stealin’ The Covers”. Covering famous songs from Elvis Presley, Alan Jackson, George Strait, Brooks & Dunn, Toby Keith & many other amazing artists.

Brett puts on an energetic wireless country performance using his charismatic personality, outstanding vocals, and impressive sound & lighting system. This show is a real crowd-pleaser for any type of venue!

Mississippi Girls


The Mississippi Girls are the cream of the crop in local country music. Darleen Thibault, Arlene Quinn and Kathleen Stroud all hail from Lanark, Ontario.
 
Their great stage presence is a result of their years of performing throughout the Ottawa Valley.

Each has recorded solo CDs and have graced stages with the likes of Blue Rodeo, Loretta Lynn, Kenny Rogers, and Bill Anderson. It has been said “their sweet harmonies will bring a tear to a glass eye”!

MONALEA PETTING ZOO

Bring the kids to see the Monalea Petting Zoo, from Brownsburg, Quebec, featuring 2,400 square feet of farm animals.

Over 60 animals are available to see, touch and feed under direct supervision of the Monalea staff and a few selected visitors will get to go inside the enclosure for an up close encounter with these animals.

Anyone who touches or comes in contact with the animals is encouraged to wash their hands at one of our sanitizing stations.

ONTARIO’S ENDANGERED SPECIES

Never has teaching our children about saving both our planet and the incredible creatures that roam it, been more important.
 
Ray demonstrates this one of a kind, fun and interactive approach to Eco Education. It is this very approach that has won acclaim and awards working with children of all ages.
 
Learn about the endangered reptiles of Ontario, featuring rattle snakes and turtles, in this unique show.

ROYAL CANADIAN MOUNTED POLICE

Royal Canadian Mounted PoliceThe RCMP is unique in the world since it is a national, federal, provincial and municipal policing body.
 
Don’t miss this chance to get up close to this incredible pairing of rider and horse.
 
They will be showcasing two Royal Canadian Mounted Police with world famous horses, direct from Parliament Hill. Ask questions, touch the horses and have your picture taken with them and create lasting memories in the RONA Pure Country Pavilion.

SHEEP SHEARING

Tom Redpath is a New Zealand trained shearer with over 30 years experience. He is the most in demand shearer in Canada. His demonstration is a sight to behold with an unmatched technique and running commentary of his work.

Walk away from this demonstration with a new found respect of where your beautiful wool sweater and warm wool socks were woven. Be careful, as Tom may try to pull the wool over your eyes!

MINIATURE HORSE DRAWN WAGON RIDES

Bring the kids to the RONA Pure Country Pavilion for one of the best rides on the grounds. Let them enjoy a wagon ride in the show ring for FREE!

Edna Crabb will be presenting her award winning team from Golden Valley Miniatures daily.
 
 
Children can see, pet, and ride along behind these beautiful animals at noon daily.

HOMECRAFT
Visit the Homecraft Area in the southeast corner of the RONA Pure Country Pavilion and see 1st place Red Ribbon winning crafts, baking and floral exhibits. 

Grandma’s Attic where homemade craft items can be purchased as well as raffle tickets for the 2008 prize-winning quilt.
 
Stop by the Tea Room for a cup of hot tea or a refreshing glass of iced tea & homemade cookies.

Homecraft will be hosting the first-annual Ottawa Valley Pie Baking Contest on Thursday, August 27th, with celebrity judge Max Keeping.
 
The event is sponsored by The Cole Family of Pinecrest Rememberance Services and Cole Funeral Services.

THE TRAVELING FARMER

Young farmers host the Traveling Farmer featuring Maple the Cow, and many educational displays. See exactly how cows are milked through this interactive display.

SOW & PIGLETS

Admire adorable piglets straight from Carson and Margaret Boyd’s Boyview Farms located in beautiful Carp Ontario.

Bring the kids to see these intelligent animals that are merely weeks old. This is a site to be seen, everyday of the exhibition, in the RONA Pure Country Pavilion.



 
POULTRY AND INCUBATOR

Don’t forget to visit our unique ‘Chick incubator’ to see chicks come to life as they emerge from their shells. You will be amazed at how quickly they are up and running-about.

We will also have numerous breeds of poultry on display including pairs of; ‘Silkys’, ‘Blue Duckwings’, ‘Marlonas’, ‘White Cornish Hens’, ‘Peking Ducks’, and ‘Brown Buff Cochins’, and more
.

Donkey & Foal    Pony & Foal
 
Be sure to stop by and visit Willow the Jennie and Rusty the Jack foal. Willow is seven years-old and Rusty is only four months-old.

Their friends are Winkles, the mare, and Twinkles, the foal. They are owned by Debbie and Ross McCaig from Brownsburg-Chatham, Quebec.
